In March of this year I bought a tee shirt from fellow ski patroller Chuck Boyd of Ski Sundown Ski Patrol. It was to help sponsor his trip to Nepal and Tibet in an attempt to climb to the summit of Mt. Everest with the Connecticut Everest Expedition 2004. I then asked Chuck if I could sponsor him to carry a pot to the summit, photograph it and return it to me. He agreed to bring my 2 oz. yellow stoneware pot along in its little black velvet bag.
The pot itself is made of stoneware and very round which makes it a strong shape and very unlikely to be damaged in route.
Chuck is the owner of a guide service called Vertical Realms, LLC. that includes adventure trips with rock climbing and mountain skills. He teaches people to enjoy the mountains. He does group and private climbing parties indoors and out. His website is verticalrealms.com. He coaches adventure race training for individuals. He lives in Suffield and can be reached at Chuck@verticalrealms.com.
Chuck first flew to Bangkok, Thailand then on to Katmandu before and overland trip into Tibet and approaching the summit through China. Of the original 7 member team four of the people made it to the summit on May 20, 2004. Chuck includes the image of himself and my pot in his slide show. I was excited to see that.
The pot is now sealed in a shadow box with its little black velvet bag, a stone from the Mt. and photos of the trip. I will have the pot with me at openings in Granby October 10th and Avon in November and December. In Granby my gallery is at 31 Barndoor Hills Rd. It is open daily.
